This is an FYI. On the night that Shani won the silver, NBC featured him with a mala around his neck. I binged to see if this was a story that was overlooked and found this item from a longer piece the NY Times did on him before the Olympics:
“Davis went on to declare his love for the Japanese candy Hi-Chews, which are similar to Starbursts, and the Buddhist temples he has visited during his extensive travels to Japan”
