Favorite Buddhist books: what’s yours?

Over at Shambhala SunSpace, I’m asking You the Readers to let others know your favorite Buddhist books, and why they had an impact on you.

Weigh in! There’s nothing better than being turned onto a great dharma book.

Hey, thanks for this. Always interesting to read what others recommend.

    Namaste.

A lot of those listed I have never seen! So it’s good to have the tips.

I love: Jan Willem van der Wetering’s 3 books.
The third is more difficult, but ultimately excellent.
The first two I have read many times.

And of course, Zen Mind Beginner’s Mind.

Anything by Pema Chodron is great, and in my daily reading, along with some Chogyam Trungpa.
Would also recommend Jon Kabat-Zinn’s “Wherever you go, there you are”. Fantastic modern insight.

For me there are two books who influenced me a lot:

Pema Chodron: When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times
Sogyal Rinpoche: The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying

‘The Accidental Buddhist’ by Dinty Moore. My best friend gave it to me at a time in my life when I really needed it – it helped me immensely.

It’s an everyman’s book about Buddhism, great for the n00b and the practitioner alike.

Thich Nhat Hanh: “Old Path White Clouds”

Shunryu Suzuki Roshi: “Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind”

Those two are the first to come to mind from a long list of faves.
