the point here is not to suggest that Stone is a terrible person. i dont think that at all. (see our Garry Shandling piece for further indication of this). rather, the point is that someone so high-profile should be careful with what she says. Stone both upset a lot of people and furthered a myth about karma (that it can be seen as “punishment”) with her words.

in fact, we should all be careful of with our words. no one is above that. not me, and not you. you’re probably right to take offense at my tone in this case, and i apologize if so. but being a buddhist doesn’t mean being perfect. it means (among other things) watching what you say, being accountable, and so on. Sharon should do that. And so should I. And maybe, by extension, so should you. That’s all.

i actually do want to know something about you. i want to know something about everybody who reads the Horse. this site enjoys a lot of participation from all sorts of very different people. including people is the intention.

when i fail at that, that doesnt make me “no Buddhist.” it makes me human. (as it would with Sharon Stone or anyone else.) that i failed here, at least as far as you’re concerned, doesn’t please me. quite the opposite.

from there, all we can do is recognize that, make our apologies, do our best to make sure we’re not on a high horse, and go on.
